River conservation and river access depend on creating a large number of informed people who care. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to keep this website updated, and thereby foster the development of a network of well-informed river users and activists throughout Latin America. Thanks to your maintenance of this site, people will know what the current problems are, what the relevant river law is, and how to dialog with politicians and officials, using relevant law, to help conserve rivers in Latin America and ensure public access to rivers for responsible recreation.

What's involved:

At least once a week, you check the River Rendezvous postings for Latin America on this site. You organize the new postings and incorporate them into the River Registry web pages, eliminating redundant, irrelevant, or outdated material. If you hear news about these rivers from other sources, you incorporate that news into the site as well. The net result will be that the site will provide up-to-date reports on the river issues in Latin America, and show people in a clear, concise way how they can help conserve rivers and river access.

Skills needed:

  • Experience using typical popular computer programs.
  • Enough writing experience to explain river issues in a straightforward manner, and to lightly edit postings by various people, deleting redundant or irrelevant portions.
  • Several years of river recreation experience, enough to understand the issues.
  • A desire to help conserve rivers and river access.
  • A commitment to check the bulletin boards for Latin America on this site at least once a week, and incorporate new material into the existing reports on river issues in Latin America.

We will send you additional directions and suggestions for maintaining the site. Each time you update the site, and e-mail us a notice to that effect, we will assign you an additional point as a member of the U.S. River Conservation Team. (See the U.S. River Conservation Team for an explanation of that system.) If you update this site once a week, you could redeem your points for, (as an example,) a new paddle and a helment every year, or a new kayak every two years. We also expect to be able to send you payment for your work in the near future, as additional people join NORS. If you later want to discontinue the work at any time, just let us know. Your points and earnings will still apply up to that date.
