Tread lightly in town
Residents in Friendsville and Sang Run have been feeling the
pressure of being a paddling mecca, and their unhappiness could
spell trouble for paddlers if they don't develop a friendlier
rapport with the community. The
Chicago Whitewater
Association offers some tips to keep the waters smooth
between the two groups:
- Leave your dogs at home when paddling the Upper Yough.
- Do not change your clothes in your car or on the street.
Use Mt. Surf or go to the changing house at the put-in.
- Do not drink alcohol on the street.
- Do not play music or engage in raucous behavior. The less
conspicuous you are, the better.
- Look both ways before crossing the street and do not
obstruct traffic.
- Drive very slowly through town and through Sang Run, the
community near the put-in. Be aware of children and pets.
- Patronize local businesses as much as possible.
